Ranger Talk from George Washington Carver National Monument
RESCHEDULED from June 17th to August 6th.
Renowned agricultural scientist, educator, and humanitarian, George Washington Carver was far more than just "the Peanut Man!" Born in Missouri to enslaved parents just two weeks before the Civil War ended, Carver was one of the most prominent black scientists of the 20th century. He developed farming techniques to prevent soil depletion, encouraged poor farmers to grow peanuts and sweet potatoes to improve their quality of life, and was an early promoter of environmentalism.
