More Musical Gems from the Yiddish Theater In-Person
The popularity of native Yiddish speaker Diane Cypkin’s first show has lead her to create a presentation featuring still more wonderful songs and anecdotes from the
Yiddish stage that is every bit as captivating as her first. Not only will Prof. Cypkin feature songs made famous by legends like Molly Picon and Menasha Skulnik, but she will also focus on the great Yiddish songwriters. These include composers Joseph Rumshinsky and Nellie Casman, who was both a star of the stage and a recording artist for several labels. These songwriters also include talented lyricists who were also skilled performers like Chaim Tauber, Isadore Lillian and Aaron Lebedeff, whom Molly Picon dubbed “Our George M. Cohan” because of his crowd-pleasing singing and dancing. Prof. Cypkin’s stories about the songs she sings will be both entertaining and educational.
