Intro to Poetry for Kids in Grades 4th-8th In-Person

Intro To Poetry is a three session program teaching young people how to explore, understand and write poetry. In the program we will explore how memory, emotion, and figurative language can be used in poetry, building a strong foundation of confidence in their writing ability. As a group we will work together on poems as well as learning how to understand different perspectives.

  • Session one will include poems from Shel Silverstein and Edgar Allen Poe and we will explore figurative language.
  • Session two we will collaborate on a project as a class.
  • Session three will build upon the work in the first two session and conclude with art work and the completion of a booklet containing everyone's poetry.

This is a beginner's workshop so no prior knowledge of poetry is required. Registration is required.
