AAUW - Celebrating Women's History Month with Coline Jenkins In-Person
Join AAUW Westchester in Celebrating Women’s History Month!
Coline Jenkins will discuss the similarities and differences between the 1776 Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments. In 1848, an historic assembly of
women gathered in Seneca Falls, New York, at the home of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who organized the Seneca Falls Convention with Lucretia Mott. Modeling the Declaration
closely on the Declaration of Independence, Stanton extended it to list the grievances of women. The Declaration also called for the right for women to vote, a radical demand that helped
launch the women's suffrage movement.

Coline’s great, great grandmother was Elizabeth Cady Stanton; her great grandmother Harriot Stanton Blatch worked as a major organizer of New York State women; and her mother was born one month prior to the passage of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution in 1920. Coline Jenkins has used her talents to inspire both awareness and pride in women’s history, and firmly believes equality is attainable.
