The Joy of Connections Author Talk and Community Conversation

The Joy of Connections Author Talk and Community Conversation In-Person

Join Allison Gilbert and Pierre Lehu, coauthors of The Joy of Connections: 100 Ways to Beat Loneliness and Live a Happier and More Meaningful Life with the late Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer, as they discuss their book, the legacy of the late Dr. Ruth, and lead a community conversation about loneliness, resilience, and how we can build more meaningful connections in our lives.

Special Guest Moderator: Stefanie Ilgenfritz, Coverage Chief, Health & Science, and Editorial Director of the Future of Everything, The Wall Street Journal

When Surgeon General Vivek Murthy sounded the alarm that loneliness “represents an urgent public health concern,” trusted therapist Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer knew that her unique perspective and expertise could help. Long beloved for breaking stigmas around sexual problems, Dr. Ruth made it her mission to help individuals break free from the bonds of hopelessness and isolation. We are social animals and have a shared desire to connect and create lasting relationships with the people around us--but the heaviness of loneliness can make this feel impossible.

Anchored by Dr. Ruth’s own story, from the horrific loneliness of losing her family in the Holocaust to living in an orphanage to rebuilding her life in America and eventually becoming a world-renowned sex therapist, in The Joy of Connections, Dr. Ruth reveals 96 years of personal and professional wisdom – how to make and nurture meaningful friendships, the best ways to spark and maintain romantic relationships, with concrete and creative opportunities we can all use right now to build more meaningful connections. View Dr. Ruth's perspective HERE.

Join us for this opportunity for connection and conversation and take away tips for forging deeper relationships (and even finding a new romantic partner)!

Pierre Lehu began publicizing Dr. Ruth Westheimer in 1981 in his role as publicist for WYNY-FM, the station that broadcasted her 15-minute late-night show. The publicity she garnered led to the show being expanded to one hour of live radio and Dr. Ruth soon named Pierre her "Minister of Communications".  His broadened duties included co-authoring her syndicated newspaper column and 25 booksHead shot of Pierre Lehu
