The Library Jazz Band Concert In-Person
It's Showtime! Musical Theater and Jazz
Many songs from the Broadway stage have become jazz standards. Hey, in Miles Davis’ hands, even "Surrey with the Fringe on Top," could be cool! This program explores tunes from musical theater and the ways in which the jazz greats made them fresh again. Among the tunes on this program will be West Side Story Suite, Chicago, Get Happy, Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise, Summertime, and many more. For this show, we are delighted to be joined by vocalist Amy London.
Library Jazz Band is a 17-person jazz orchestra based in Yonkers, New York. We perform throughout Westchester and beyond, in venues – like libraries and festivals – that make our music available to all. Our musical selections are a mix of classics performed by the greatest jazz bands (Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis and more), original arrangements whenever possible; and terrifically creative new compositions and arrangements by members of our band. Our members are outstanding jazz professionals who come together to celebrate and share a love of America’s original music. All are working musicians, and many have been teachers, as well.
Featured vocalist Amy London has enjoyed more than 25 years of performing at New York’s top rooms, such as Dizzy’s, The Rainbow Room, Lincoln Center, Birdland, Blue Note, The Kitano and many others. Her most recent recording, The Royal Bopsters Project, was named to “Best CDs of the Year” lists by Downbeat, JazzTimes, and All About Jazz.
This event is live and in person in the GPL Multipurpose Room. Seating is limited to 100. Seating for this concert is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
